Statement
These three works share a single method: watercolor on Arches paper, made live as a witness to what is in front of me, building a complete picture from multiple simultaneous views.
DCWall — the first ventitych panel, 20 watercolors, 88×150in (7’4″x12’6″) — is the first completed panel of a four-panel room-enclosing installation of 80 watercolors, running dimension 7’4″x50′, painted live on-site in Washington DC from 2020 to 2026. The individual paintings were never offered for sale or exhibited separately; they were conceived only as elements of the complete installation, which was first announced and offered for exhibition in 2026. The first panel was completed in 2025.
Mother’s Home is a triptych of three 22×30in watercolors painted live — my mother at home, in hospital, in an elderly care facility — three moments across time held together in one work. Begun 2023, completed 2025.
Ranunculus Dianthus, painted live in Toronto, is a single 22×30in sheet in which the same reportage impulse operates at intimate scale — many views, many moments, one simultaneous space, completed in 2025.
Together these three works represent thirty years of developing this method across subjects, scales, and circumstances — from a single flower to a room-sized installation documenting American democratic history.
